At Caramore Community, Inc., our mission is to empower people with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI) to live meaningful and independent lives by fostering strong work ethics and creating a safe and supportive environment where the population we serve is given to space to flourish.
At its core, Caramore exists on the basic belief structure that vocation is valuable. Whether a person is mowing the lawn, cleaning an office building, or running a multi-million dollar business - a day spent working is a day spent well. This is where we start with every participant that comes through our doors.
Meet Basic Needs
We understand that finding work is easier said than done, especially when faced with homelessness, hunger, or any other life-altering adversity. At Caramore, we endeavor to eliminate all obstacles that would prevent our participants from finding success, thus we've designed a system that accounts for each individual's fundamental needs while they participate in the program.
Set Attainable Goals
The average participant spends no more than one year working through the Caramore programs and on to their own independence. A big part of that is setting attainable goals like: getting and keeping a job, managing personal budgets, and saving money. Eventually, when all of these things become second nature we can start to discuss long term goals as well.
And Then We
Work For Progress
Many Caramore graduates go on to live full and enriched lives. Often, just the practice of a routinely going to work, taking medication, and engaging in daily living skills is enough to create long-term momentum. Graduation, marriage, kids, a career or any other goals - there is no reason each and every person can't have them all!
